Xiafang Tao

Dr. Xiafang Tao, Senior Researcher, VSB-TUO, CEET, MELab, Ostrava, Czech Republic, and Postdoc, Max-Planck-Institute for Polymer Research (MPI-P), Mainz, Germany.
Dr. Tao specializes in developing advanced single-atom catalysts for electrochemical transformations, with a focus on sustainable energy solutions. Dr. Tao brings extensive expertise in designing high-performance electrocatalysts – including bimetallic systems and doped carbon nanomaterials – for critical applications such as hydrogen evolution, oxygen reduction reactions, and environmental remediation.Dr. Tao completed her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at Jiangsu University in China, where she conducted significant research under Prof. Xiaonong Cheng. Her doctoral work included an exchange at MPI-P, Germany with Prof. Klaus Muellen, followed by postdoctoral training at MPI-P under Prof. Mischa Bonn. Her multidisciplinary background bridges materials science, electrochemistry, and biotechnology. Her scientific contributions include co-authoring impactful publications in leading journals such as Advanced Energy Materials, Nature Communications, and ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering. Notable work includes pioneering studies on phosphorus-enhanced bimetallic catalysts for hydrogen evolution, atomic-scale stabilization techniques for high-loading single-atom catalysts, and graphene-based nanocomposites for environmental applications. At VSB-TUO, Dr. Tao collaborates closely with research teams – including Dr. Yazhou Zhou’s electrocatalysis division – to advance CEET’s mission of developing innovative solutions for global energy and sustainability challenges.
