Opportunities for cooperation in areas that currently represent key challenges for the metallurgical industry were the main topic of a meeting between scientists from the Materials-Envi Lab (MEL) and representatives of Třinecké železárny, led by CEO Roman Heide. The participants focused in particular on circular economy approaches, efficient utilisation of secondary material streams, and reducing environmental impact. The discussion also addressed possibilities in material characterisation, analysis of process dust and waste, as well as laboratory validation of new technological directions.
Representatives of Třinecké železárny visited the MEL laboratories, which can support the development of low-emission and circular solutions for industrial practice. A shared theme was the need to connect academic know-how with concrete operational challenges, and to seek ways to enhance the sustainability of steel production while maintaining its technological and economic competitiveness.
“I believe the visit was beneficial for both sides. Třinecké železárny is a key industrial player in the Region, and the visiting delegation was enthusiastic about the technical capabilities of the laboratory and the know-how of our scientists. We identified several concrete directions for research cooperation that we want to develop intensively,” said Radek Zbořil, Head of MEL.
