The inaugural NanoCzech Liberec 2023 conference, held on September 27, marked the commencement of a platform for the convergence of nanotechnology enterprises, interest organizations, high tech solutions-driven companies, public administration representatives, scientific researchers, and students. The event showcased the research conducted by the Nanotechnology Centre CEET VSB-TUO, presented by Radek Zbořil, Head of the Materials-Envi Lab. Zbořil praised the conference as a celebration of nanotechnology.
The conference brought together representatives from leading companies and academic institutions that have made a significant impact on the global landscape of nanotechnology.
Examples include the Brno electron microscopes, widely utilized for materials research in laboratories worldwide, the technology of nanofiber production through electrospinning, or the application of iron-based nanomaterials in groundwater remediation.
“In my presentation I highlighted the nearly four-decade journey since the development of the first nanomaterial. Indicating the future of nanotechnologies, I sought to outline the direction and research focus at the Nanotechnology Centre. Key areas of interest include the design of nanomaterials through computational approaches and machine learning, as well as the development of technologies for fine-tuning material properties through single-atom engineering. I shared research outcomes achieved through collaborative efforts with colleagues in Olomouc, Trieste, and Rostock, illustrating the contribution of novel materials to sustainable energy, biomedicine, and environmental solutions,” said Zbořil, explaining his participation at the conference.
The conference was organized by the Regional Development Agency together with the Liberec Region, the Technical University of Liberec, and the CzechInvest agency. The conference aims to become the largest meeting of its kind in the Czech Republic.
The conference was held under the auspices of the Minister of Science, Research and Innovation Helena Langšádlová, the Minister of Industry and Trade Jozef Síkela, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský, the Governor of the Liberec Region Martin Půta, and the Rector of the Technical University of Liberec Miroslav Brzezina.
